The rapid growth of Near Field Communications (NFC) is driving the development of new technologies and applications by ecosystem players around the globe. As these new developments enable consumers to utilize mobile money products and services more easily and safely, the adoption of NFC within the marketplace will only accelerate. It is estimated that global NFC m-payment transactions will account for almost US$50 billion worldwide, and 300 million smartphones will be NFC-enabled by 2014.
To keep pace with the tremendous growth and adoption of NFC, the GSMA is expanding the popular Mobile Money Summit event to showcase NFC and its many applications. With this new focus, the event will now be known as the GSMA NFC & Mobile Money Summit. This annual event will continue its commitment to the development of mobile money products and services in developing markets around the world while also bringing new energy to NFC innovations.
